The setup procedure for all Roku players is almost the same. Setting up a Roku player is very simple, with just a few things to determine before setting it up.
Step 1: Connect Roku Player to Television
There are two different ways to connect the Roku player to a TV
- Using HDMI cable
- Using RCA cable (Composite Cable)
These are the common audio and video connection types available on most television sets.
- Connecting the Roku player to your TV using HDMI cable
Connect one end of HDMI cable to the back of your Roku player and Connect the other end of the HDMI Cable to the HDMI port on your TV. Usually, there 2-3 HDMI Ports on the TVs. Any HDMI port can be used to connect the Roku player.
- Connecting the Roku player to your TV using RCA (Composite) cable
If HDMI port is not available on the tv (Old model Tv’s) then RCA cable which is also called composite cable can be used to connect Roku player to the television. RCA or Composite cable is three color cable. One end of the Composite cable should be plugged into the Roku player and another end should be plugged into the RCA port of the TV. Note: We recommend to connect Roku Player Using HDMI cable as HDMI cable can transfer both video and audio signals and it also supports up to 1080p HD video playback. After connecting, Select correct input (the input to which your Roku player is connected) on the Tv to get Roku screen.
Step 2. Turn on Roku Player
Connect the power adapter into the Roku player and plug in the power adapter into the wall outlet. The Roku player will start booting up. Some Roku players can be powered by connecting the USB cable (Included in the box) directly to a USB port on the TV.
Note: The USB port on some TV’s are not able to power a Roku player.

Step 3. Setting up a Remote controller
Take out the Roku remote controller from the box and remove the back cover then insert the AAA batteries. Pair remote controller with Roku player. In case remote controller does not pair automatically, Then press the small button for 5 seconds at the back side of the remote. Roku.com/Link
Step 4. Getting started
After booting up, the Roku logo will appear on tv screen and then the following options will be displayed on the screen.
- Let’s get started
Select a language. Using the arrow buttons on the remote controller, select your preferred language, then press OK on the remote controller.
- Connect your Roku player to the network
Now connect the Roku player to the network. There are two ways to connect the Roku player to a network.
- Wired (If Roku player has Ethernet port)
To connect Roku player to the Wireless, Select wireless option on the tv screen using the Roku remote controller and then press. Available networks will be shown on the screen. If you do not see your network, select Scan again to see all networks. Then Select your wireless network from the list of available networks and then Press the OK button on the remote controller. Now enter the security key of the wireless connection using the on-screen keyboard. If you want to see your password which you have entered, choose Show password. This can help to enter the correct password. Remember, passwords are always case-sensitive. After entering the correct security key, selected Connect and Press OK Button on the remote controller, If you see three green check marks then Roku player is connected to the wireless connection. If any Red Cross appears on the screen, It means Roku is not connected to the wireless.
- Wired (If Roku player has Ethernet port)
Some Roku devices can be connected to the internet using Ethernet cable.
Use an Ethernet cable (not included) to connect your player to your router. One end of the Ethernet cable should be inserted into the Ethernet port of the Roku player and another one should be inserted into the Ethernet port of the router.
- Software Update
Upon a successful network connection, you’ll be prompted to the screen “Update available”. Press the OK button on the remote controller. Roku player will start updating the software. This process may take some time depending on the internet connection.
- Display Settings
After installing the latest software, You need to select Display setting like resolution, Display type, etc. Roku Player will immediately determine the best settings for your HDTV and apply them. For Roku Streaming Stick, Select Set display type and allow the setup to run. For Roku Streaming Stick+, Select Auto detect display type. You can then select OK, go to automatic when prompted. Display settings can be changed once your Roku is set up by opening Settings, selecting Display type, and selecting your preferred TV settings.
- Activation Process:
Activate your Roku using a Computer or mobile device:

- Complete set up on the web
Open the Roku website. Go to website https://my.roku.com/link in your computer’s web browser. This website can be opened up on the mobile phone browser as well. Enter the activation code: Next screen would be “Please enter the link code displayed on the TV screen. Enter the activation code in the text box which is in the middle of the screen and click on the submit button.
Roku Account: Every Roku device needs a Roku account.
on the next screen, It will ask you whether do you have Roku account or not? Choose one of the followings:
- No, I need to create one
- Yes, I already have one
If you do not have a Roku account, select 1. option and create a new account. Fill out the on-screen text fields with your First name, Last name, email address, preferred password. Then you will be asked to create 4 digit PIN number, It is up to you that you want to create this PIN or not. If you create a PIN, To make any purchase on the Roku, You have to enter this PIN Number. In the next step, you will be asked to add the payment method. When prompted, enter your preferred payment information (e.g., a credit card or PayPal). You will not be charged when entering your payment method, but this is required to make any purchase Like Movies on rent and TV shows and for any other content (e.g., subscriptions) on your Roku.
Adding Channel: After entering the payment information, You can add channels to your Roku. some channels are already selected like Netflix, Amazon Prime videos, Sling TV, etc. After selecting channels, Click continues.
you’ve completed the activation process, you will be able to use your Roku on your TV. Now press the HOME button on the Roku remote controller and you will see the channels which you have in your Roku account.
Now suppose you want to watch Netflix channel, go to Netflix, Press the OK button on the remote controller. Now it will ask you if you are already a member of Netflix or not? If you are a Netflix member, select that option and sign in to Netflix account using the email and password of Netflix. In case you want to change any Roku settings like language, Screen Saver, and display settings, you can go to settings on the home screen, and select the appropriate option to make any changes. You can also change the password of your Roku account by signing into Roku account.

There are three ways to add channels.
- On the web
- On the Roku device
- Using the mobile app.
- On the web: you can access channel store from your computer
Go to channelstore.roku.com. Select My account and sign in to your Roku account. Now click on channel store and search for the channel which you want to add. After adding channels, it would take 24 hours to appear on your TV screen as a Roku device checks every 24 hours for any new channels.
If you would like to download immediately, go to your Roku device and select Settings > System > System update > Check now. Roku.com/Link On the Roku device, Go to a streaming channel from the Home screen. Now you can see the list of channels or genres. Whatever the channel you want to add, select it and add this channel. When you want to learn more about a channel, press the OK button on your remote to open the details:
- Using the mobile app.
- Open up the app
- Go to Channels>Channel Store
- Browse the channel store by category or genre
- To add any channel, Tap Add channel
- Note: If you have set up Roku account PIN, then you have to enter it to add any channel.
